Dear North Star Circuit Instructors and Fans:
As a follow up to last month’s Leadership Update I would like to introduce the remaining members of the NSC Leadership for 2016-17.
Board of Directors
Jessie Taylor, Treasurer
Jessi Foell, Secretary
Lanae Maslowski, Contest Director
Andy Combites, Chief Judge
Dustin Elder, Member at Large
Jared Peterson, Member at Large
Lisa Rodenkirchen, Member at Large
Tamara Schmidt, Member at Large
Jonathan Su, Member at Large
Parade season for many programs is in full swing and the NSC members who participate in parades have been cleaning up in the awards categories as well as making a lasting impression on Minnesota towns and communities.
When it comes to field shows I had the opportunity to spend some time with River City Rhythm (RCR) the new Drum Corps International (DCI) open class corps out of Anoka, MN. In their second year in existence, they have doubled in size and talent. Many of the performers are from Minnesota High Schools as well as Lux and MBI winter guards.
Minnesota Brass Drum and Bugle Corps is celebrating their 70th year this season! Many of Brass’ alumni continue to participate in this activity by either marching or teaching programs throughout the state. Don’t miss your chance to see their show “Now Boarding” before they head off to DCA Championships, September 1st in Rochester, New York.
Following the Scholarship Winners
I hope everyone has been enjoying their summer and taking in a few local drum corps practices as well as going to the movies to see DCI at the Movies. The 2016 NSC and Jim Zika Scholarship winners have been doing Minnesota proud on the big screen with their excellent performances.
Outreach to Directors
Over the past month I have been reaching out to NSC member unit directors to introduce myself and discuss their needs and priorities. The circuit really needs to know what our unit’s priorities are to ensure the Board of Directors builds a proper infrastructure to help them succeed with their mission of developing skilled performers, strong programs, as well as continuing the activity for generations to come. If you haven’t spoken with me yet don’t hesitate to call (651) 983-6071 or email email@example.com. I would love to hear from you and carry your message on to the Board of Directors for consideration and planning.
