NAME CHANGE FOR SEASON OPENER
The 2017 North Star Circuit (NSC) season is just weeks away. The NSC Board of Directors are working hard to pull together all the details to support the upcoming season. One noticeable change you will see immediately is the name of the season opening show. The first show of the season is now called the “Premier Show” (formerly known as the “Scholarship Show”). The show will still support the scholarship program, but will more appropriately be call the “Premier Show” to signify the grandeur of the grand opening of a great production for its audience (like a movie premier). The NSC is looking forward to co-hosting the “Premier Show” with the Minnetonka Marching Band Boosters at Minnetonka High School on January 28, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tickets will be avaiable for purchase on the website soon.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR NSC PREMIER AND CHAMPIONSHIPS
The NSC is looking for a few volunteer to help out with show tickets, apparel booth sales and a few other positions. Please go to northstarcircuit.org under ABOUT NSC/Volunteers to sign-up to help or contact vicepresident@northstarcircuit.org or secretary@northstarcircuit.org. The NSC sincerely appreciates the time and effort of all volunteers who contribute to keeping the circuit functioning and supporting the talented member units, as well as the fans who enjoy the shows every year. Thank you in advance for your volunteer support!
OUT-OF-STATE AND ENHANCED EDUCATION – JUDGES
This year the NSC Board and Chief Judge, Andy Combites, have worked very hard to enhance the judging exposure for our units. With this in mind, the majority of the NSC shows will have top level Winter Guard International (WGI) judges from out-of-state adjudicating our shows this season. In addition the NSC has raised the bar for local judges by requiring them to take WGI certified classes (100, 200, 300 levels). The goal is to provide our member units consistent commentary and scoring as many of our units participate on a national level.
SHOWS IN THE NORTH
During the 2017 season there are two shows in the Sauk Rapids and St. Cloud area that need your support from a participation standpoint. Both northern shows will have WGI out-of-state judges adjudicating. We would like to have as many units as possible take advantage of the opportunity to receive national feedback. Your consideration in signing up for these shows is greatly appreciated by these units as well as the NSC. Please contact Secretary Jessi Foell to add either show to your schedule.
Eclipse Winter Guard – February 11, 2017 at St. Cloud Apollo High School from 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Sauk Rapids High School – February 11, 2017 at Sauk Rapids High School from 6:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
AD SALES FOR NSC CHAMPIONSHIPS PROGRAM BROCHURE
Are you a parent who would like to do something special for your graduating senior or just surprise your student and tell them how proud you are of them in a big way? In addition are you a business person who is looking for an additional advertising opportunity in front a few thousand people? The NSC may have just the vehicle for you. The 2017 Championship Show Program Brochure is going to include advertising opportunities. The advertising program is going to be unveiled at the 2017 Premier Show with order forms available at that time as well.
2016 INSTRUCTORS CLINIC AND SPIN JAM
Both events were highly educational, well attended, and based on participation surveys, well received. I would like to sincerely thank the NSC Board of Directors, Members-at-Large for developing the content and handling all the logistics related to these events as well as the keynote speaker Jenifer Leseth (Instructors Clinic). And many thanks to all the trainers who participated in the SPIN JAM event.
2016 ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS
The NSC and private donors provide funding for academic and marching scholarships each year. The NSC acknowledged the marching scholarship recipients this past summer and would like to shine a spot light on the 2016 academic recipients. Congratulations to the following students on your college journey.
