Dear North Star Circuit Instructors and Fans:
The 2017 season is right around the corner and we have many updates and reminders for you.
WGI Rules and Regulations – Recruitment
The North Star Circuit (NSC) is seeing significant growth in independent units going into the 2017 season. This is very exciting for NSC! With this growth, challenges do arise concerning ethical recruitment practices. Because of this I wanted to reiterate the WGI Rules and Regulations concerning recruitment.
“WGI discourages independent color guards from utilizing high school students who were previously enrolled in an active winter guard high school program and have not yet graduated.”
“WGI also discourages independent color guards from utilizing performers who have outstanding monies owed to a previous color guard.”
If you have any questions regarding this rule, please reach out to me at any time.
Remembering a Great Man and His Family
The NSC would like to acknowledge the 10th Anniversary of the loss of a great man, Doug Greenhalgh. His contributions to marching band and winter color guard still echo in the halls of Chippewa Falls High School as well as all the many circuits his program has participated.
The NSC has had a marching scholarship in place since Greenhalgh’s passing which supports student academics and higher levels of performing. The NSC is very proud to have Doug Greenhalgh on one of its most coveted scholarships which keep his contributions to the performing activity and student academic achievement alive in perpetuity.
Website
Don’t forget to go and take a look at the new NSC Website. Jessi Foell, Secretary of NSC Board, was instrumental in its development and did a fantastic job! A few areas to definitely take note of are the show signup portal, calendar of events (already filled with all of NSC upcoming events), and classified section, open for all to sell flags, look for instructors, and much more.
Instructors and Judges Clinic
The NSC Instructors and Judges Clinic is scheduled for October 29, 2016, from 12:00 noon – 3:00 pm at the New Brighton Public Safety Building with guest Jennifer Leseth. This is not only a great opportunity to have instructors and judges hear from an expert in the field of color guard and drum corps, but students who have an interest in teaching could gain a ton of knowledge from Jennifer. The event is free and open to all who wish to attend. RSVP here.
Sincerely,
Bridget Farley-Honkanen
NSC, President
